High-quality carbon steel blade made in Solingen. You have to sharpen the right bevel from scratch with bench stones.

High quality high carbon steel blade made in Solingen. Looks good and is sanded fairly well, very straight and even, after some hard work a nice edge is obtained. The blade is "super sharp", but only for a knife, it's by no means shaving ready. Hair scratching, but uncomfortable. You need to sharpen the right bevel from scratch the first time with bench stones. This cannot be achieved by simply stripping the insulation, even with compound. In the beginning you have to start out pretty rough and remove quite a bit of material to replace the factory edge and create a new chamfer. I would recommend at least a #800/#4000 sharpening stone combination. I started at #1000 and it took quite a while to set the bevel so maybe a little rougher start would have helped. I then quickly worked it up to #12000 on rocks. Then a cheap sling, first on the fabric side with the compound, and then for a few minutes on smooth leather. Now he's doing the hanging hair test. Whether you want to sharpen this yourself and have stones, or you want to have it professionally sharpened, this will end up being just as good as any straight razor. I won't miss it but the white writing is fading out of the pen.
