This is common on 2 of the 4 patterns I have purchased. 2 simple pairs are fine. Patterned couples (which were prettier, of course) were unwearable. My daughter immediately complained that it hurt to wear them (there are drawings on the belt too) and when I told her to stop complaining I really felt them. Sandpaper will be more convenient. I suspect they'll fray around the edges after a few washes, but that's just silly.
