I wanted to buy my mother a laptop as her 10 year old Toshiba was completely out of order. I considered all options but everything was too slow within my budget. She just watches movies and surfs the internet, YouTube, etc. So I wanted to find a laptop for her that would be particularly suitable for such tasks. I started looking at Chromebooks. Mind you, this was the very first Chromebook I bought, so I didn't know what to look for in the specs. I mean, let's be honest, when it comes to specs, the Chromebooks that are out there right now have very weak specs. But don't be fooled by the inconspicuous numbers. Chromebooks use the Chrome OS developed by Google. They use a completely different user interface than Microsoft or Apple, for example. Chrome OS consumes significantly less resources, so your computer runs very fast even with low specifications. For example, my mother's old Toshiba had a 10-year-old Intel Celeron processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive. Nothing fancy, just a regular laptop. This Toshiba took about 4 minutes to load. When it came to surfing the web, watching youtube etc it was an absolute pain! This ASUS Chromebook has similar or even weaker specifications: Intel Celeron processor, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory. You may be wondering why on earth would anyone want a computer that performs so poorly? Do not be fooled. I was also skeptical when I first bought this Chromebook. The laptop boots in 7 seconds. That's right, 7 SECONDS! The entire laptop setup took less than 2 minutes. All you have to do is sign in with your WiFi information and Gmail account. Everything else is configured automatically. The interface was very simple, even a child could work with it. It's understandable why it only has 32GB of storage. You store all your documents in the Google Cloud. Every app you could possibly want is included: Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Drive, etc. In my mother's case, she only watches YouTube, so this is the perfect laptop for that. Not to mention that it's incredibly thin! From a distance it almost looks like a MacBook Air. Chrome OS discreetly updates your computer so you don't have to worry about updating your laptop or being warned about it. You won't get bloatware on a Chromebook either, as Google has you covered with its security features. All in all, this is a fantastic notebook for the price. My mom has been using it for a few days now and she absolutely loves it! In fact, she tends to babysit him and cover him with a packing sleeve after each use. LAUGH OUT LOUD!
