I agree with Dale B's review. I bought these speakers from BestBuy on Black Friday for $70. It's definitely worth the money. I wouldn't spend more than 90โฌ for it. The pair I received works perfectly, no problems so far. Now let's reduce the sound quality. I was surprised at how much base these speakers have. Of course, this depends on where you place them in the room. I have them on a wall table two feet off the floor and they sound good. If I hand them out on a 4 1/2 foot tall dresser, they have less base. They're ported on the back, so I recommend placing them at least 12 inches from the wall. I believe the woofer is about 4 inches. The tweeters sound good enough for beginners. I compared these speakers to Dayton Audio B652 Air which I also have. The B652 Air has a 6-1/2 inch driver so I would expect them to have a larger base. The Insignia drops much lower than the Dayton Audio B652 Air and I was very surprised. The B652 Air has crisper highs and better mids for vocals than the Insignia monitors. However, the high frequencies of the Insignia monitors are not bad. The weak point of these speakers are the mids. They are too muted and the vocals sound unnatural. The sound is very V-shaped. The speaker has a power button, but that only puts the speakers into standby mode. You have to press and hold the volume button to turn off standby and switch inputs. Overall these speakers sound ok as a stand alone unit for what I paid. UPDATE: I installed a 2nd order crossover at 2500Hz 8 ohms from Dayton Audio from Express Parts and dampened the cabinet. The highs are now more pronounced, but sound very detailed and clear. And the bass is less boomy. I also hooked up a tweeter that I bought from parts-express.com, but it's 4 ohms, which switches the crossover point to 5000Hz, which is better. I just replaced the 4" speakers with full range speakers. They sound like a completely different speaker and look way better. They have a burst of detail and the vocals sound way better than the original woofers. See photo after. I'll probably spend another $100 spend to modify them and I am very satisfied.
