This is basically an AM/FM radio with a weather band. An alarm is something that is activated manually, e.g. a siren. This is NOT something to warn you to listen to the weather station in the event of a call to action. That way, unless you want to keep it on 24/7, you won't get hurricane or tornado alerts while you sleep. Disappointed and ordered another brand, low price makes return impossible. An instruction manual written in English by a non-English speaker, with multiple grammatical errors and unclear instructions.
