Works with some limitations

UPDATED: I contacted support via email and they sent me a replacement which never arrived due to a zip code error. They sent another one and I received it and tested it. 1) I may have had a bad power adapter before - the replacement allows all USB ports to be powered by the AC/DC adapter. 2) Further testing shows that without a power adapter, the device shares its power supply with the parent USB port/hub. If the parent USB hub cannot supply enough power, the external ports will not work due to power limitations. If you want to connect something to the USB ports that draws more than the minimum amount of power, you'll need an AC adapter. Low-power devices such as flash drives, simple keyboard/scrapers, or FIDO authenticators shouldn't be a problem. 3) Given the cost and speed limitations of SATA3, I think Gen1 speeds are acceptable. ----- Original below --- I liked that it is small and has the characteristics of a USB 3 SATA adapter. The price is very reasonable for what it is. I like this device when working with some older laptops that only have a USB-A port and need an extension to allow HDD/SSD transfer. However, there are some disadvantages. 1) External power supply is for SATA connection only - it does not help to power USB devices in the hub. 2) When a high power device is connected to the USB ports, they do not work or turn on at all. For example, if you plug in an iPhone 12 that asks for more than 0.5A, it may not turn on or connect to the PC at all. 3) USB 3.0 (3.1 Gen 1 or 3.2 Gen 1) at 5 Gbps is quite an old standard (2008). I want it to be scaled to 10GB (USB 3.1 Gen 2, 3.2 Gen 2) so the bandwidth can be shared across the USB hub ports. Low-power USB devices such as thumb drives, keyboards, mice, Yubikeys, etc. will still work on all ports. .I have written to support to confirm the USB power delivery issue and will update the review if necessary.
