Review on MOVESPEED 256GB 3D NAND Internal PC SSD - Fast SATA 💾 III 6Gb/s Solid State Drive for High Performance and Speed - YSSDJQB-256GSQ by Justin Elmore

Good SATA SSD but questionable value

While many have migrated to faster PCIe NVMe SSDs, there is still a significant market for SATA-based SSDs, either as an upgrade path for older computers that don't support the newer NVMe standard or to add more drives beyond that Modern motherboards offer 1 to 3 NVMe slots. This MOVESPEED 512GB SATA SSD definitely offers a significant speed boost for anyone upgrading an old rotating drive/hard drive, or it can also be used to increase capacity by using another SSD in a desktop or laptop expanded or replaced. Benchmarks (attached) show over 400 MB/s reading and over 300 MB/s writing, slightly above the hard drives' capabilities. Insertion can change that lightness (laptops are usually tougher than desktops, for example). The drive comes with no cables or software—most modern SSDs don't have these—so you'll need SATA power and data cables. After installation, Windows Partition Manager recognized the drive and I was able to easily initialize and format it before running tests/copying files. A 2-year/200TB written warranty is on the low end of the standard, but acceptable here. The drive is light and beautiful in relatively plain white, except for the word MOVESPEED on it. The real issue here, however, isn't the drive itself (which, as shown above, is a pretty good drive for what it is, 512GB). SATA III SSD). It's more about value - you get a virtually untested brand with MOVESPEED at a price point that, at the time of writing, is higher than competing well-known brands of the same size. It's a tough decision - if that price discrepancy changes, it's certainly a good drive and a good option if the price is right.

Pros
  • ✅128GB to 1TB capacity will meet all your needs, whether you're looking for a system drive or a game drive.
Cons
  • This pisses me off
