I tried putting in double AA batteries but I REALLY would have to put them in and I won't because they will get stuck and then it will just be completely useless. I used eneloop pro dual AA rechargeable batteries, but after trying two of these I had to throw those two out as well because they were damaged and not worth the risk of leakage. I will try to order another brand of batteries, unfortunately they are not rechargeable and if that works I will update my rating to at least 3 stars and also let everyone know what brand I used. Otherwise I just throw it away. It's also disappointing just because it came with a lovely funny birthday card that looked really sweet and sincere. I was only going to give it 5 stars for that reason, but unfortunately, while kind words are great, the actual product is rubbish at the moment.
