I ordered this for my 6 year old daughter because she loves to wear skirts and dresses to school and the shorts are perfect because I don't have to worry about reminding my daughter to wear shorts underneath. She weighs 51 pounds, is of average build and normally wears a size 7/. 8 in clothes. The suggested sizes were a bit odd so I ordered her 8-9 year old shorts to make sure they weren't too small. I would say a size 8-9 is very similar to a size 7/8 because this skirt is perfectly sized for her. The material feels elastic and silky, which is very pleasant for children who are sensitive to scratchy fabrics. The length is good, not too short for school but not too long to look messy. Washed and tumble dried with no problems. There will definitely be a lot of wear in these shorts this summer and I would consider ordering them in other colors but the price is a little high to justify that.
