Review on JBL FLIP 5 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker - Squad (Renewed) by Adam Gechem

Better than expected!

My first JBL product received as a Sony fan. After comparing it to the Sony XB33, I realized how much I like this speaker. The JBL is definitely louder than other speakers for its size, it's compact and the sound quality is pretty good. I definitely think it's worth buying and I haven't had too many issues with the updated product. I have several complaints. 1.) The most annoying problem is that it overheats and just shuts down at full volume for a long period of time. I don't know why it's getting so hot. I thought it was just an issue getting an "updated" product, but the same thing happened to a friend of mine who also had a brand new device. It can also be caused by playing heavy metal all the time. I've found that soaking under cold water can help lower the temperature temporarily. 2.) The Bluetooth range is limited here. I couldn't get more than 15 feet before the audio cut out. 3.) The JBL Connect app is very finicky. I'm having trouble connecting multiple Flip 5 speakers even though I'm connected via Bluetooth with no problems. But when it works, it works great! 4.) The smallest problem is the lack of a built-in microphone. Sometimes I don't like switching from speaker to phone/airport in the middle of a jam session. I would still buy it again as they say. A very solid speaker that puts other speakers I've seen at this price to shame.
