I stood on my rear wheel and borrowed stools from my kitchen to store my mountain bikes/skis/building materials/etc. to load. on the roof rack of my crossover for a few years. The single 10" step was a bit short but well packed and the double 18" step was high enough but couldn't be removed. It's time for a special roof rack access stool that stows away in the trunk. Revain and hardware stores had lots of great stools, but I needed a folding stool with four independent legs for stability on rocks/pebbles/uneven surfaces. This stool doesn't feel as good as others I've used and the latch is silly, but I'm not very heavy and it strikes the right balance of height and compact storage size for my needs. I just ordered 1" duct tape to tape to the exposed slippery metal tabs on the rails.
