Review on Redmon For Kids 8003: The Ultimate Sure-Close Kitchen Food Scrap Pail in Warm Gray and Beige by Jared Barit

We recently launched a pilot food waste collection program in our area. I wasn't sure if I'd go along with it, so I ordered this small version to see if I could force myself to save leftovers. The handy size and unobtrusive design make it perfect for my desktop and I use it pretty much every day. After reading the reviews I was concerned about smells and bugs. The perforated lid keeps food waste from getting too wet and doesn't seem to let odors escape or bugs in. I try to take the bags out of the bio bags often, but collect the waste in the same bag for up to 4 days with no noticeable odor. If the bag feels damp I remove it and freeze the contents straight away, which is another reason the small size is good - it's easier to store small packets in the freezer between harvest days. And I didn't notice any bugs: the perforation in the lid is rather small, which apparently repels pests. I suppose you could toss the waste straight into the bucket without the liner, but that seems unsanitary and difficult to clean. I do not recommend this.
