They always complain about these fan motors being difficult to install, but on my 1999 328i, pre-facelift, it was a miracle. Here's why: The 1998/99 E46 has M52TU engines (all others have M54). The two motors are almost identical however the shaft has been designed around the first making it very easy to swap out the fan motor in these models. I was able to remove the engine (through the gap on the left passenger side) without pulling, binding or touching any bodywork. Almost failed. After reading the horror stories, I was amazed. However, the product was perfect. My squeaky fan is now completely silent. And check your engine model before you plan the worst!
