Fountain pen aficionado's review

I held off on trying these for a long time because I was skeptical that they would actually be fountain pen friendly, as a lot of people think thick paper automatically equals fountain pen friendliness and that, as long as the ink doesn't bleed through, that counts as "fountain pen friendly". I happen to HATE when fountain pen ink spreads, gets woolly, or feathers, though, and I found no information about that.I'm happy to report that the paper really does hold up to most fountain pens, from extra fine to broad, that most people would use as daily writers. No feathering that I could see. The paper is smooth but with some tooth (more tooth than Rhodia) and feels more absorbent than the premium paper brands (Clairefontaine, Rhodia, Tomoe River). It reminds me a lot of Leuchtturm paper (before their paper quality declined). It's therefore no surprise that, while "daily writing" is fine, ink swatches/drops will bleed through, and very wet specialty nibs will show spots of bleeding with some inks. Also, shading is more subdued than with C/R/TR, and sheen basically disappears except maybe with some mega sheening inks (which I don't use). So, if you're a fountain pen user, this notebook would 100% do the job as a workhorse notebook for most actual writing. If you want to do more creative journaling that includes wet media artwork or want a notebook to use as an ink journal, I'd go with something else that would handle wet media or heavy applications of ink better. And if you really need to see all the shading and sheening properties of your ink in their fully glory, this might not be the best notebook for you--but it's obvious that this notebook wasn't designed with that kind of thing in mind, so I didn't take off any stars for that.It gets a star off because it's not packaged well, and one of mine arrived with a dented spine that shows through as wrinkles in the paper on every single page. It's still totally usable but kind of annoying. Other reviews indicate that this is a common problem, so if you need your new notebooks to be pristine, you might want to pass.Note that this is a thick, heavy notebook, which I like, but if you're looking for something compact, this isn't it.
