Review on πŸ”Œ Monoprice 15ft USB 2.0 A Male to A Female Extension Cable - 28/24AWG, Gold Plated Connector, Black Color by Albert Tucker

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality cable, length, power requirements and,.

When installing new outdoor cameras, I didn't have enough length of a cable to stretch where I wanted. Since I was using an old extension I had on hand with an existing camera, it worked great. That's why I ordered this cable, the cable itself looks good, no obvious problems. how well does it work? quite good, with no problems, but with a caveat for some users regarding USB power adapter hardware limitations that apply to all USB cables. Before I posted this review, I noticed a reviewer politely calling the cable and saying it's sort of an energy vampire? When it comes to power and USB, cable length matters. USB 2 stubbornly remains the most widely used type of USB power delivery, but it delivers very little power. In my experience, starting at around 15' you need a USB power adapter with more power than you could use with something shorter. According to "the book" the USB 2.0 specification limits cable lengths to 16'5". USB 3 is at 30 meters or about 98 feet 5 inches for example, 6 times the distance. Without the use of additional equipment so in combination with cables this is an extension, our expectations of use must take design constraints into account. The overall distance is important, not just the length of the extension cord.Recent example was connecting external cams via a manufacturer power supply totaling 26ft and the Cam didn't work. I then replaced it with a stronger Amazon Echo USB connector and everything worked fine. I did the same test on another one and I had to do the same swap to get it working. All these cameras came with theirs Powered by standard power supplies and the shorter (10ft) cords that came with the kit I've been through this in the past after I learned the hard way to manage the installation of new systems in our city and also in my own office/home. Again, a USB 3 port consumes an average of 7W, a "normal" USB 2 port emits no more than 2.5W. Also why on some computers you can only charge devices via the USB 3 port provided for this purpose and not other slower USB 2 ports. In this case, a reviewer misses how much power really is in relation to the power supply with this or any USB extension cable counts no less or even more than the total length of cable used to get from point a to point b. Everyone said I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of these extensions. However if I need it primarily for data transfer then I need a USB 3 cable, they have different pin ends as well as internal differences. but again only if my priority was data over power.

Pros
  • Computers and accessories
Cons
  • Slightly torn
