Makes great pancakes - almost reliably

This rating is based on the 7.5 inch size. I got this because while I like a stack of pancakes, my wife prefers pancakes. Just yesterday I used the crêpes maker for the first time. Here are my first impressions. The crêpes maker came in a not quite properly assembled condition (hence a star deduction). The base section (where the power cord attaches) has a plastic bottom cover that hides the electrical box and is secured with three small screws. This plastic cover was not fitted properly as one of the wires was pinched between the cover and the base causing the device to tilt when placed on a flat surface. I was able to fix the problem by removing the cover and rerouting the cable a millimeter or two. This experience made me expect that the crepe maker might be a piece of junk, but I decided to give it a chance to recover. I'm glad I didn't give up on this guy because I followed the instructions and found the device makes great pancakes. The fact that the hob is detachable from the base and has no cable attached to it makes it easier to handle when you flip it over and lower it into the batter tray (included: a flat plastic sheet that's slightly larger than the hob). ). The batter sticks to the hob, you put the lid back on the motorized base and after a minute the pancake is cooked to perfection and just "falls” off when you flip the lid. Pancakes taste like "real" and taste delicious when you garnish them with some apricot jam or orange marmalade and then roll them up. . I've found that too much melted butter can cause the batter to fall off the cooking surface when you remove it from the pan, leaving a partially cooked pancake in the pan. Use melted butter sparingly.
