Review on Rattleware 3 Ounce Logo Pitcher Glass: Stylish and Versatile Glassware for Brewing and Pouring by Scott Spoja

Good for your espresso machine.

I use this stack almost every day for my Vetrano 2b espresso machine. I highly recommend it if you use espresso shot glasses. It's a lot easier than using two separate 1-ounce stacks. I've tried not to use a measuring cup in the past and with my volumeless coffee maker I thought that was a bad idea. The glass is wide enough to accommodate both streams of espresso in one cup. If your espresso is brewed too quickly (e.g. 10 seconds), the nozzles will move too far and spill. As you can see from the photos, a real frame lasting about 30 seconds is enough. I did find that I occasionally spilled a bit in the beginning as it's difficult to accurately balance before the espresso has steeped. In the picture it looks easy because the camera is only a few centimeters away from you. The small handle is nice because you can position the cup without burning your hand. If you leave the espresso in it for a few minutes, the glass will be too hot to hold, but the handle will remain cold. If you try to pour hot water, it will spurt out as the nozzles widen. You can still pour water in by simply lifting the cup and touching the spouts. I do this to warm the glass. You can also heat the glass with the water from the steam nozzle, but I usually don't have to. I read someone had problems with glass breaking from hot water. It is most likely a manufacturing defect or damage in transit. I've used this mug over 600 times (twice a day for a year) and it hasn't broken. This includes the occasional hot steam, espresso, and general cleaning. I usually try to wash it with hot water to avoid a lot of thermal stress, but I've washed the hot glass with cold water and it hasn't cracked yet.

Pros
  • The glass body enables a quick assessment of the quality of a portion
Cons
  • not reliable
