This item was purchased as a DIY hob retreat. However, it is EXTREMELY noisy and has a very low flow rate. The noise was so bad that I considered bringing it back and abandoning the project. But with a little ingenuity, this product works great. Instead of using a snorkel and regular air stone to suck water into a crate, I bought a water pump to pump water from my HOB filter into my new sanctuary. That works great! Completely silent and has excellent flow. The box is about 1 gallon so helps stabilize the water and the compartment is big enough to hold lots of macro algae. Basically I would only buy this product if you are completely happy with the loud noise of the original design or if you decide to make your own mod like I did.
