Medium goes well with my 2021 Norco Torrent which has an external shift housing underneath. The bike came with an extra self-adhesive foam pad that would have protected the frame well, but I'm sure it would be scratched and look bad if the chain had fallen or if a branch got caught between it and the chain. etc. The lizard skin screen protector is really strong and looks almost brand new even after hard contact with rocks. The chain is actually pretty smooth and easy to work with. I see a lot of people getting frustrated with the setup: it's bike specific, but it's actually "chain specific". Just measure the circumference of the chainstays on the drive side (don't assume they're always symmetrical, and consider the shifter cables that run along them. The material is flexible to allow for a little taper and spacing, but the tighter the fit, the better and more secure it will be. If you don't have flex tape, use a strip of paper to wrap the drive side of the chain, mark and measure instead.
