We ordered two of these for our HP Elite X2 1012 G2 tablets. We found the need to add a second monitor and needed more USB ports than the built-in X2 G2. The device has its own power adapter (so you don't need an outlet) but does NOT power the tablet (frustrating). However, the HDMI port allows us to add a 24-inch monitor (easily!) and expand the USB ports to use desktop scanners and a USB microphone (for special software that requires that particular microphone). Pros include: Plenty of USB ports (2 USB 3.0 and 4 USB 2.0) HDMI DataPort video port (video, but I don't know if it's used at all) Ethernet jack (this is VERY handy in places where I need to connect directly to the device via cable) Audio-out jack (for speakers) Microphone-in jack (for the microphone mentioned above) Cons: Requires its own power outlet (adapter included) Does not power the tablet :-( It's missing a pocket to keep all the parts (power adapter and cables, USB cable to connect to a tablet/laptop, special design, docking station, device itself) Overall we are VERY happy with this device takes up a lot of space I just wish there was a way to power/charge the X2 G2 when it was plugged in and I wish they had a pocket to store this thing, it's easy to lose the necessary parts.
