Maintenance too expensive

I have a patio door surrounded by these lights. They create a very beautiful sight. The board works fine. However, there are very few differences between the choices. Some of them are the same sequence of lights on and off, faster or slower in view. Very disappointing when I was expecting really different lighting effects. Inside the battery compartment is a black "rod" - a very short one, probably just over an inch tall - that also toggles the lights on and off. If your lights don't turn on after turning them off, open the battery compartment and push this bar. Do this before purchasing new batteries for the remote control and/or the lights themselves. There are two different sets of batteries. Look at AA and CR. Two CR batteries cost me over $8! Check this rod before you decide there is something wrong with the lights. Everything - the remote control and the light - is battery operated. There is no electrical plug. How much money you spend on these lamps depends on how many days you use them. how long do you run them each day and whether your budget is limited or not, or it doesn't matter. Personally, I'm not on a budget, but since there's very little difference when it comes to lighting choices, I don't want to spend any more time than I already do. Wouldn't buy again although I like the color and see it. Very Christmassy. There isn't enough variety in the display, but the blue color is very nice. I have long enough batteries, but I don't turn on the light more than 3-4 hours a day. I cannot predict how long they will last with extended use. My apartment faces a courtyard where there is no foot traffic at night, so there is no point in keeping it longer than mine.
