Review on Seasonic FOCUS GX-850: The Ultimate 850W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply for Gaming and More - SSR-850FX by Tammy Chavez

We live in strange times. At the time of writing (July 2020) finding the right power supply is NOT easy! Sometimes you see a power adapter you like and when you double check the specs and add it to your cart, the item is out of stock! To be honest, I was reluctant to take this power supply. I wanted full modular, but this one is only semi-modular. But I wanted to use the Seasonic brand because of its reputation. Anyway, I used this power supply for the build and here's what I think of it. The first great thing about this power supply is that it comes with a tester. You simply plug the power cord from the power supply into an outlet, and then connect the tester to the 24-pin cable that goes to the CPU. When the power supply is running, the power supply fan spins. This is an excellent stress reliever. This saves the hassle of doing a build and then wondering which part isn't working! Is it a processor? motherboard? BP itself? We've all been through that. Kudos to Seasonic for that. The power supply comes with 1 24-pin CPU header and 2 4-pin connectors, which can be used together if your motherboard has an 8-pin connector. It also has a set of 6+2 pin connectors. They're all non-modular, so you need to find a way to keep them from interfering with your build. I just used the included zip ties to secure it to the base of my computer case. Cables for PCIE and SATA connections are more than enough. Chances are, you won't use them all. Installation is easy and the instructions are sufficient. The fan is quiet. My system is stable. The power supply is rated 80 Plus Gold. The build quality is solid. I would recommend this power supply, even if it's only semi-modular.
