The separator is fine but has two major problems. First, it is difficult to set up and measure the enlargement/reduction ratio. Second, the mechanism is unreliable and too easy to unintentionally unlock. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a small carriage bolt and wing nut and this problem should be solved. The package also included a tool for measuring gray levels, but even that wasn't perfect. When used, light must pass through a "clear" plastic film; but this plasticity adds brilliance and/or obscurity to the viewed - so that in fact it does not allow the artist to make reliable value judgements. The grid tool also included in the package is nice, but it is limited in that the grid pattern/size is fixed. Finally, the included color wheel tool is nice but awfully small.
