Review on 🔧 Moog 81609 Coil Spring Set: Enhanced Performance - 1 Pack by Darrell Beecher

2011 Traverse - not the same as original but easy to fit

The first photo with the two springs shown are the original car springs. The one on the right of the compressor spring is broken about 1/2 turn from the bottom. That's why I changed them. The original springs are 5 coils and the Moog springs are 7 coils. The outer diameter of the wire on the Moog spring is slightly larger than the original. I haven't done spring calculations, but the inserts are probably not the same. The free length of the feathers is about the same. I found it fairly easy to change the springs by removing the 2 lower A-arm bolts and the inner bolts (24mm hex heads). I jacked up my car (very important unless you want to get killed by a car that falls on you!) and used other jacks and pry bars to get the A-arm back in place to unscrew the bolts to reattach. I show the spring with the spring compressor, but I didn't use it to remove or reinstall the remaining springs. On my 2011 Chevy Traverse LT, I had to lower the passenger side exhaust to access the lower A-arm bolts. A bit cumbersome, but doable. I just removed the rubber caps from the pins using WD-40 as a lubricant. I drove the car and did not notice any problems with the springs, which differed from the originals.

Pros
  • 100% load test
Cons
  • Definitely bad product
