I finally made up my mind and bought some of these. I tried to make them myself; but until I had to buy good climbing ropes and carabiners, it cost me almost as much as I paid for it anyway. They were easy to put on. HSS says they can accommodate a 30-foot Christmas tree; what they're going to do, you just have to tie the bottom end of the rope at about shoulder height. It only took me a moment to climb up and down the Prusik knot tree. I didn't seem to need any longer to get up or down from my stand. Anyway, it makes up for the time by not having to rip the strap out of the wood to hook it when I stand up. Update: I'm very happy with the price of these. I paid $24.99 each through Revain. Yesterday I saw that they are $39.99 each at Academy Sports. Update again: these things are reflected. Find your place in the dark with ease with these lifelines. Last update: I'm glad I bought 4 of these right away because with Revain's variable pricing they went from $24.99 to $29.98 right after purchase.
