These shelves are NOT DOUBLE SIDED as advertised. Technically yes, you can hang them either way as there are two sets of brackets on the back - one for each orientation. However if you look at the main image you will see that the top of the crescent needs to be about 3 inches in order for the shelves to be parallel to the floor and the shape is a waning crescent (open to the right) from the floor. to the left of the bottom point. This means that if you rotate the shelves in a crescent shape (open to the left), you'll need to hang the top tip about 3 inches further to the left, otherwise the shelves will be diagonal. It looks very strange when the top point is so far above the bottom point. As it is intended to hang in a waning crescent, the top is "sharper" in this position and the bottom shelf is taller than the top. That means you spin it on the waxed serent and suddenly the top plate is bigger than the bottom and the bottom tip is "sharper". If you buy a set of 2, you CANNOT hang them in opposite directions. and align them the same way. See my photo. They should hang at different angles to keep the shelves straight. Therefore, they cannot be used in pairs.
