Voice quality is not very good but MUCH better than just beeps, squeaks, sirens or screams. A few things to note: It has a bright LED that flashes intermittently, which takes a while. Get in the habit of ignoring the marker once, or (like we did) hovering over that LED to add a thin layer of ink that will dim the light but still be visible when you look at it. The detectors don't talk to each other. If the block shuts down in the basement, it doesn't shut down in the hallway either. It's on the list and we knew about it, but I want to mention it again. If you want this feature, you can get Nest for 5 times the price. We had what we thought was a carbon monoxide false alarm. We had 2 carbon monoxide detectors in the room but only this one worked. We also have another detector in the hallway that also didn't work and we don't have natural gas, a chimney or other reasons to produce CO. In any case, we didn't have a repeat, let's see what happens. I recommend this smoke and carbon monoxide alarm.
