How did I live without her?

A few months ago I bought an old Singer 96-40 (industrial sewing machine) on Ebay. It had the original Singer clutch motor. Love, love, love for the car - but the clutch motors run constantly when the car is on - and they are very noisy. Every time I turned it on, it felt like opening an airport. In earnest! I'm also pretty sure the operation added about $35 a month to my electric bill. Then I did a little research and found that these SERVOS are available. Mine changed fairly easily - didn't even have to drill new holes in the industrial sewing machine table. It fits like a glove! Of course, the table and the clutch motor were very heavy, so I needed my daughter's help to lift some things. But I'm a 70 year old grandmother and I did the installation myself! The motor makes no noise when I'm not sewing. What an improvement. How could I ever live without it? As for the dial meant to slow the car down - I'm not sure if my car broke or if my car is just too old to use that tech - but the speed doesn't seem to have changed. so many cars. I think it could be me. And I wasn't necessarily interested in that slowdown. For others - for example those who sew leather - this can be a problem. For me - I couldn't be happier.

Pros
  • Ease of use and quiet operation Easily adjust the speed of the SM-550 motor with the speed controller conveniently located on the side of the motor. Once properly adjusted, the SM-550 runs smoothly and is virtually silent.
Cons
  • High price
