Review on Stay Alert with First Alert Public Alert Radio featuring S.A.M.E (Discontinued by Manufacturer) by Josh Reynolds

Good product! the best shortwave radio

I've had First Alert Public Alert Radio with SAME for about two months now and it never ceases to amaze me - in a good way! For the last 8 years I've used an old portable public address radio and it's a HUGE improvement. Pros: - SAME technology that works. It's priceless not to be awakened by a severe thunderstorm across the state.- When an alarm activates the radio, it will beep, an alarm will play and the radio will return to standby until the clock/alert is updated. However, depending on the type of alert, the indicator will continue to flash red or orange. It's a really nice feature - I have a dog that is crazy about the sound, so I used to have to turn off my old radio when I went to work and then reprogram everything when I got home. I can leave this radio plugged in and programmed - It's easy to understand the features/instructions while reading the manual (took about 10 minutes to set up) - You can turn off notifications. I live in Minnesota and I'm not particularly bothered by hurricanes. :-) The notifications I programmed are working great. good size Smaller than my CD alarm clock and reception is loud and clear without having the antennas up. You have the option to turn off the sound that sounds when you press a key. Surprisingly, this was one of the main reasons I chose this device over its competitors. - Decent volume control - on the lowest setting I can hear the alarm throughout the single story townhouse. Cons: - While I like the size, I wish it was a little smaller. This is just my personal preference (and a sign of how much I like it) as if it was a little smaller so I could take it on a hike. The system stores multiple alerts so you can scroll through them if you miss one at work. A "delete" button would be very handy (like an answering machine). Overall, I give the device a solid 4.5/5 stars. It's got great features (although I think there's always room for improvement) and it's a pretty inexpensive way to get some peace of mind.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • A little wrinkled
