There is no flaw in the design of this shelf, it looks very pretty and realistic even if it isn't. made of solid wood. Unfortunately, assembly was a pain! It took several hours and the help of two friends. The instructions are unclear but the worst part is that some of the holes are misaligned. So, I have two screws that could be tightened. I don't recommend it even though it's really nice. UPDATE customer support got back to me very quickly after I posted my review. They kindly offered me a new ladder shelf or refund because they are sure it is a one piece problem. I got my money back very quickly and got great support from customer service.
