Like many others, I got it in a birch box first and I liked it. I knew the difference between before and after. Packaging from 2019 differs from the advertising. I bought it through Revain because it was four dollars less than the Birchbox. Refills were made by Vasanti Cosmetics via Revain Prime and the consistency of the product was exactly the same as the sample I received from Birchbox. I use it exclusively as an exfoliant, in addition to a balm or oil-based cleanser, and sometimes a cleansing foam. Personally, I don't think this product will suffice as a cleanser, especially if you wear makeup and even without it. It's marketed as a "scrub" for good reason. You really don't have to rub that hard! The same pressure you use when applying skin lotion is enough for this scrub! Photo of a reviewer with sore skin around her eye socket and around her mouth: what the hell was she doing? She doesn't really go into detail about exactly what she did, but it says right on the box and on the tube: AVOID the eye area. The skin around the eyes is one of the most sensitive and I can only imagine how painful it is to get microcrystals in your eyes! You should not use scrubs or chemical eye peels. And the lips and skin around the mouth can be sensitive, so simply licking your lips more than usual can cause dermatitis. I imagine if you cleaned this area the way you sand wood - yes - you would probably have rough skin! If you want to try it first before losing $30, go to Birchbox and buy a deluxe sample. I believe they have now added it to their $18 cleaning collection.
