Review on Danco FLT231T Black Toilet Tank 🚽 Flapper Replacement – An Optimized Alternative Solution by Ricky Brooks

Edit, leaking a month after installation. It's still a smart device, but it's leaking.

Plumbing problems frustrate me to no end. I can't count how many toilet valves and chains I've had to fix in my lifetime. I've always gone with the old fashioned ones and they've never let me down. Until I moved to a new apartment last year. The new house had an old but still flimsy toilet that leaked like it was being paid for. So I did what I always do, I replaced the entire damper assembly and putty in all the spots. In order not to tinker with it later, I immediately swapped the float valve and the handle. The damper and handle just didn't fit properly and the toilet didn't drain completely. It was already a low-flow toilet, and flushing less than a full tank just wasn't enough. I tried a different grip geometry and a third closure. Then I tried this hydrostop thing. It looked difficult. Seems like an overly complicated design, but it works great. Yes, it's more expensive than a hose and rubber float, but not by much and well worth it. Now when I flush, all the water in the tank drains out and all the poo is gone. I've even checked for leaks and so far it only lets water through when I want it to. It's pretty easy to install if you're a little crafty. If you can replace a regular fastener, you can do it.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
