HDR still doesn't work with MacBook Pro

I bought this because I wanted to play HDR videos in 4K at 60 fps/hz on my 2018 MacBook Pro without using the internal display. Unfortunately I haven't managed to do that yet. I have macOS Catalina 10.15.2, a BenQ EW3270U 3840x2160 monitor with HDR support, and a Monoprice 18Gbps cable. The monitor and cable have been successfully paired with the Roku Ultra and other 4K HDR streaming devices and passed all tests without issue, proving their HDR capabilities. Otherwise, the adapter works well with no other video or usage issues, but the main issue was achieving HDR. Playback on my HDR monitor. As previously mentioned, when I play video through the MBP's internal display with nothing else connected, it plays HDR video. This only works with QuickTime, not Safari. I have tried with the MBP closed using just a BenQ monitor connected to an external Mac keyboard and mouse as above but to no avail which is my typical operation in my office. Video and all other tasks work, only 4K HDR videos won't play with QT and says connected device is not capable. I've even tried 48Gb/s/8k cables with no success, so I don't think the problem is with the monitor cable. If I figure out the magic combination I'll update this post and upgrade to 5 stars.
