Addition after 5 months: The moment has finally come for which we buy these things. I drove out of the lumberyard and forgot my iPad was on the truck's toolbox. After 10 minutes I realized I had lost my iPad and turned around. When I came back I found the iPad face down in the middle of the street. The iPad and pencil were intact, the pencil was still in the slot, neither was damaged (apart from a few abrasions on the pencil). It must have been thrown onto the pavement from a height of 20 feet at 15 mph and the hull is still in good condition to be used. This case saved my iPad! Upgrade from 4 to 5 stars. Initial review: Received this and followed the instructions, gave the screen a thorough cleaning before putting it in the case and went to town with tests, specifically using a pencil on the screen protector. The case is fantastic. I wanted a case that was "not a clunky Otterbox made out of a bulky piece of rubber" but still offered the same level of protection. As soon as I unpacked it, I could tell that it had more than met my expectations. I "dropped the cart" 3 days in a row before making the reluctant decision to buy this, put off by the on screen reviews. I'm glad I finally bought it. SCREEN PROTECTOR Many reviews complained about the screen protector, and some even suggested breaking the plastic and sticking the protective glass directly onto the iPad. If you're concerned about direct exposure to the screen (rather than scratches), you should still be. Although I don't think about it. So I wanted to test the built in protector myself before ruining what appears to be a solid product. And I'm glad I did. I have a job on a construction site, I look up floor plans on my iPad while going through all the sites, so I didn't take any chances with my purchase - I added some tempered glass screen protectors to my order at the time of purchase just to be safe. But the verdict? The screen protectors were a waste of money and the negative reviews were annoyingly misleading. The screen protector adheres perfectly and vacuum tight to the screen from corner to corner and maintains perfect integrity when pressed with a pencil. This is important to me because I have to mark drawings in the field. I think the bad reviews about the screen protector come from people who ordered the case for the wrong model, didn't clean the screen, or didn't follow the instructions. assembly instructions, or the manufacturer has changed the design in recent weeks to improve the tread quality. My money is on user error, but who knows. WHY ONLY 4 STARS? All in all I love it. But the reviews got it right about one thing: the stand sucks. I mean come on It is a very impressive and enduring work of art, and its Achilles Healing is its only "mechanical" feature. It could be better.
