Quilled Borders & Motifs is a delightful and great value quilling book. While part of the book is devoted to borders, as the title suggests, much of the book is devoted to individual motifs such as flowers, insects, and birds, or seasonal items such as Christmas candles, wreaths, and snowflakes that the student can use to piece together their own projects. . The author, Judy Cardinal, provides some illustrations for using her drawings on pages 22 and 23, but for the rest of the book she does not go beyond simple motifs. If you're good at following instructions but don't like experimenting with your own designs, this book may not be as helpful as others that are more direct and specific. If you want to take design to the next level yourself, this book will enable you to create your own original work by learning the techniques of the art without resorting to the author's creative influence. In short, without giving complex examples, the author even allows students to encourage their own creativity. A beginner will like the book for a very detailed description of the technique. Almost half of the book is devoted to him, the rest - individual motifs and patterns for their creation, which makes the book useful for a beginner. Intermediate Quiller fans will likely find the book useful for clever one-offs, although most are very simple and will likely appear similarly in books you already have.
