Only the smallest needle will go through the plastic mesh "tarpaulin ".

I bought this to teach young children (including those who may or never become "trusted" with really sharp metal needles due to a disability) how to sew plastic sewing braid. I don't know if it's possible to buy plastic mesh with different mesh hole sizes - but in what appears to be a "standard" size, only the smallest needle goes through the holes in the mesh. I tried two "yarns" with double thread. One is 100% cotton sock darning from Walmart, the other is DMC embroidery thread. Darning thicker socks โ€“ was it a little easier to take them off? Maybe it seemed because the thickness of the yarn attached it well to the stitch from the first stitch. The embroidery thread must be secured, otherwise there is a risk that the end will be pulled out of the product without a securing stitch. I definitely turned the piece over to push the needle through and used the table top as a thimble while doing a few stitches with embroidery floss because my fingers got a bit tired with only six stitches. If I can find a mesh with larger holes, they'll be more useful. I might try to find a "soft" burlap that would be more fun with an embroidery hoop to keep the fabric stiff and stable for younger folks. The great ones seem to make good bandages at such a cheap price. . The embroidery thread must be secured, otherwise there is a risk that the end is pulled out of the product without a locking stitch.
