I tried this on a pair of pants and placed the new button two to three inches to the right of the old one for a closer fit. It doesn't quite work. The pants stretch just a little on the new button from unbuttoning to their original size in about a week. However, the button was easy to install and if you ever need a replacement that's good. But as an addendum, I didn't really understand the resizing.
