Good wool socks; Shrinkage?

As consumer advocate George Costanza told us, nobody likes wastage. And these socks seem to shrink a bit. On the other hand, they are quite elastic and so shrinkage may not be fatal to the usefulness of these socks. When I received these socks, I was pleased to discover that (compared to many competitors) they have a decent percentage of Merino wool. Some of the socks I've seen are listed as merino wool socks, but the percentage of merino wool is very small. These socks have a respectable amount. And in my experience with other clothing, merino wool is warm and lightweight and can be washed and tumble dried if you're not too aggressive with heat. I think the handling instructions say the same thing (these symbols confuse me). But when I washed them, they came back noticeably less. It bothered me but when I put them on they stretched well on my legs without being too tight. So maybe everything is fine. These are good warm socks, comfortable and beautiful I think. I'm taking off a star for shrinkage, but I'm still happy with these socks.

Pros
  • FAST Wicking: Thanks to the high proportion of merino wool, these socks quickly wick moisture away from the skin and dry quickly.
