Review on πŸ’» StarTech.com ST7300U3M 7 Port USB 3.0 Hub - Metal Enclosure - Desktop or Wall Mountable - Rugged & Industrial Powered USB Expander/Splitter (5 Gbps) by Gary Duncan

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Just over half work

Of the 7 ports available, 4 and 5 don't work. Which I only discovered a few weeks after receiving, as I initially only connected 3 devices. The three devices I had connected to it were 2 external hard drives (one self-powered and the other via a hub) and a keyboard. They work fine, and plugging in a USB drive to transfer files also works (if I avoid dead ports). The main problem is that I also have an external Blu-ray player that I only use occasionally. Connecting to a hub while other devices are already running is causing issues such as hard drives and/or the player accidentally disconnecting from my Macbook Pro. However, if I turn everything off, unplug the hard drives and reboot with only the player plugged into the hub, it works with no issues. I'm not sure if this problem is related to the hub or to my Macbook Pro; I mention this in case someone else has a similar setup and may be facing similar issues. It's a shame I can't rate it higher as physically it's a very good device. Small, metal, with rubber strips to attach to the bottom to keep it from sliding across your desk, a very nice touch.

Pros
  • USB hubs
Cons
  • Not as thick as the other tips
