This has been the cleaner of choice for many years as it is excellent at dissolving the 'mucous membranes' that form in the plumbing system. However, we eventually realized that our system, despite being cleaned very often, might need some extra "speed up". The following is the procedure we use for a large hot tub that has been proven to provide excellent cleaning even if the system is rated as "extremely" cleaned when "fine" is found in the hot tub OR the pumping system. little used since last cleaning (if used weekly, Slim should not accumulate): • Fill the tub by fully opening the hot water valve and half opening the cold water valve. Fill about 1 inch above the top nozzles. • Add 6 ounces of Oh-Yuk (our vat holds approximately 47 gallons of water for one cleaning cycle) • Run the pump for at least 1 hour • Turn off the pump and let the system sit for 15 minutes. • Run the pump for 10 minutes. • Add with pump running: 12 oz. liquid laundry bleach and 12 oz. Cascade Dishwashing Liquid POWDER (DO NOT use dishwashing liquid - it foams!). • Run the pump for 30 minutes. • Switch off the pump, let the system rest for 15 minutes. • Run the pump for 30 minutes. • Turn off. pump and drain the bath. Rinse the shower handle quickly after emptying. • Fill the tub by fully opening the hot and cold water faucets. Fill about 1 inch above the top nozzles. • Run the pump for 15 minutes (this is a "flush cycle" as all debris is removed from the system). • Turn off the pump and empty the tank. • Carry out final cleaning. Bathtub gelcoat finish. Since we have been using this procedure for several years, we have not had a single cleaning where "black slime” came out of the tube during the hydromassage. I would give Oh Yuk 5 stars if I didn't have to step up the cleaning with bleach and dish soap.
