First, as with all of these 3D pens, it really takes a lot of practice before you get good results. #1-First, the mat is made of a very durable material that will not melt or change color upon direct contact with our 3D pen. #2-Second, the mat is full of different types of lines and shapes to help you create any type of education you need to create your masterpiece. We are so glad we found this rug. You simply follow the grooves in the mat with your pen and you can draw your newly formed figures right out of the mat. It is so easy. My 15 year old settled in in about 20 minutes. I just watch her to make sure she doesn't abuse the pen, she doesn't need any help to create cool objects as the 3D pen design mat is so easy to use. I recommend everyone who is looking for a tool to make drawing with a 3D pen easier to use this amazing innovation. Remember this is just a pillow, you will need your own 3D pen and filament to use it.
