New listening experience. I've lived with two Mission 732 front speakers and a 12" Velodyne subwoofer for about 20 years. I've also had 2 Polk Audio bookshelves and a Polk center channel for surround sound, all powered by a Yamaha RX-V575. I had a really good sound (I thought so) and was very pleased.I visited a friend who had 20 year old Definitive Technology BP-10 turntables and was blown away by the difference between my sound and them DTs was amazing.I started shopping and found the latest DT Bi-Polars.The price was high but I thought you only live once and music has always been my passion so I decided to take the plunge.I spent Spent some time researching the available components DT had 3 models that caught my attention BP-9040, BP-9060 and BP-9080 After checking the budget and reading reviews from others I settled on the BP -9060, ic h also added a matching center speaker (CS-9060) and SR and SL-9040 surround speakers (they didn't make 9060 surround speakers). The price you see is the price you pay for it. So you either had to pay rent or buy speakers (not that bad, but close). Everything was packaged nicely and arrived safe and sound. I took the day off to tie it all together. There are a few things that you need to be very careful about when dealing with these speakers. First, they are very heavy. Second, they are covered with a thin cloth. There is nothing between the speaker cone and the fabric. In other words, there's no hard speaker cover, just a very thin fabric. There are speakers on the front and on both sides. Also, the center channel speakers are on the front and top, so you can't place anything on them. Keep clumsy or drunk friends away from them. Handle with extreme care. The front speakers are only 6" wide so space shouldn't be an issue, but they come with 11" wide stands so you'll need some clearance below. BP-60s are nearly 45 inches tall and a foot deep. The center channel is also heavy. It measures 21 inches wide, 6 inches high and a foot deep. I can't make an effort to be careful with it. I also upgraded my speaker cables to the best I could afford. You don't have to move them too often. Every speaker, with the exception of surround sound, has powered subwoofers, so you'll need a power source for each. Independent controls for the subwoofers are located on the rear of the speakers. I have them on until 9 a.m. each day. With everything connected, it was time to decide what to play first. I chose Pink Floyd's Animals (always one of my favorites). I turned off my subwoofer to hear what they could do. First, I turned the Yamaha on about halfway. Needless to say, the speakers reproduced the sound as if it were meant to be heard. I've been listening to this album since high school. In 1980 I finished my studies. For the first time I heard something I had never heard before. Perfect! My dogs started barking like crazy during the break. We all enjoyed the new sound. While you don't have to crank the volume up to experience a sound reproduction, I experimented with the volume on the next track (PIGS) and cranked up the Yamaha volume. I could say that these speakers can handle the volume. Glasses trembled from the bass reproduction. When you put your hand in front of the subwoofer, it pumps out air that you could use to dry your hair. No distortion, crisp and clear highs and excellent room-filling separation. If you close your eyes, you can't tell where the sound is coming from. I also like to listen to a lot of live music, especially the Grateful Dead, and if you have a good record then you're in concert. A bad recording will sound bad. I ended up hooking up the surround sound and turning on the subwoofer. You don't need a separate subwoofer, but if you have one you may need to change the crossover frequency so that it only responds to really low frequencies. I saw the Avengers movie in surround sound and it was amazing. I'm not a big movie fan, but if you are you won't be disappointed. I recommend them to anyone who appreciates sound like me if you can afford the price. I believe they will last a lifetime and are worth the money. As time goes by I am thinking about upgrading Yamaha. Happy consumer.
