Review on Pyle Phono Turntable Preamp - Compact Audio Phonograph Preamplifier with RCA Input, RCA Output & Low Noise Operation, Powered by 12V DC Adapter - PP999, Black by Allison Smith

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pretty solid preamp

Having just bought a new Orbit with no preamp I needed one to get started, I'm not an audiophile at all although I do enjoy listening to vinyl. I'm currently using Edifier speakers so I don't currently have a receiver setup and apart from player quality there's nothing hi-fi here. When everything is set up, I don't notice any audio issues, although I might not even know what to look for. From what I've read in other reviews there's a lot of hum or other grounding issues, very little noise before the record starts playing, but I have no idea if it's just static recording and not real static during the Playback is or is it expensive? Preamplifier doesn't make any noise at all. Since it's pretty much the cheapest option around here, I took a chance and can't complain yet. I don't ground my device, also keep an old Teac cassette deck nearby and everything works fine. Maybe in the future when I switch to a different preamp I'll be able to tell the difference, but for those who need something and aren't trying to get serious about studio quality gear, this is more than for you. The design is quite compact with easy setup, I just put it on the back shelf. Yes, an on/off switch would be nice, and the large brick construction of the power supply are the downsides I'd call for, but for $15, that's not a huge downside.

Pros
  • Great performance overall
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
