When the power goes out it can be a real shock, instant blackness where you can't even see your hand in front of your face. Like a neighbor who shampooed her hair, I think she was very sick, the lights went out, the shampoo got in her eyes, she fell out of the bath, she broke her leg, yada yada yada. We gave her three of these and she really understood their importance after what she had been through. Basically it's just a nice convenience instead of walking down the stairs in the dark after a power outage. But they can actually save lives. And they're inexpensive. They work great. However, they are not eternal, they are not designed to last 1000 years or so.
