Review on Cable Matters DisplayPort Feet Resolution by Josh Schaefer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Finnicky spirited

I am giving 3 stars because it still works but had some annoying problems with it. I bought a pair of 15" HDMI cables, 15" USB 3.0 cables, and a pair of 15" DP cables because I wanted to be able to reach not only my VR headset anywhere in the room, but mine as well monitors. Most of these extension cords were from Cable Matters and worked great. This wasn't all smooth sailing. On the one hand, the release buttons at each end are rubbish, both appearing to be completely frozen and jammed. Push it with all your might, it doesn't move. However, they somehow still seem to work and you have to squeeze them to release the cord, leading to finger pain and frustration from not being able to tell when you've actually released it. Few things are more annoying than a stuck button, and apparently that's how it came from the factory. The other main issue is flickering, which appears completely random. It didn't happen for the first month or two, but lately the monitor it's connected to (my 2nd screen) has been flickering almost completely randomly. All that has changed in that time is the movement of things. The cable must either be connected to the same monitor or to a third identical to the second (I usually use 2, sometimes 3). The only time this isn't random is when I first turn on the computer, the second screen flickers while the computer boots up, and then goes black when I log in. I have to either turn it off/on or go to windows display options. , change it to "Only show on 1 screen" and then change it back to "Extend these displays". This happens at every start, without error. After turning on/off the 2nd screen works but still flickers occasionally. I don't have to touch it or move anything for it to flicker, but it also flickers when I touch the connector to make sure it's fully inserted. Which again is hard to tell because the stupid triggers are blocked. To make matters worse, I think some of the flickering was caused by display driver issues, as this is quite common on AMD and the flickering isn't that bad after a driver update (except when loading, which is always still occurs). I came. to write this review and another reviewer said that changing the cable direction eliminated the flicker. So, I'll try, but this cable clearly doesn't deserve more than 3 stars, and it still flickers when I barely touch the connector on the back of the monitor. If you touch the connector on the PC or move it even slightly, there is no flickering. I've tried switching between identical 2nd and 3rd monitors and nothing has changed so I'm pretty sure it's the cable. If the direction is important, it will not be shown. Depending on the computer/monitor, this may only matter in certain scenarios. So it was annoying, but it still works. Let the buyer be alert.
