I once worked for a gardener with 40 years of experience. He wore knee pads to cover the green. It seemed odd that he was using it on such a soft surface, but he knew what he was doing. A few years ago I decided that kneeling on gravel or concrete was bad for my knees or pants. Instead, I started bringing a stool to sit on. I ended up buying knee pads. They were very comfortable and much more efficient than a stool. I once had to remove eight boards from a fence to exterminate the carpenter bees in the posts they covered. Some screws were close to the ground. I have to go down eight times to remove the boards and eight times to replace them. The ground was soft, but I put on my knee pads to keep the clover from staining my pants. The guard knew what he was doing. Even on soft ground, they made work more comfortable and efficient.
