I found out about failed filters just 3 months after buying the fridge. I was so angry I even screamed. For GE to blackmail us into buying their standalone filter for almost $60 when the same filter can be had for $12 without a chip is a marginal crime. I will never buy anything from GE again. They treat us like a big wallet rather than regular customers and I'm happy to share my experience with anyone who asks me. I hope this theft will haunt GE forever. Also, the fridge is junk. Limited temperature control because "the computer says so" 1/2 cup of cold water and then warm again isn't enough. The shelves on the ice door are too narrow to use. Bad planning.
