It's really thin enough to fit under a washer and dryer that are low to the floor. The lid doesn't keep out most of the dust and dirt you'll find, but what doesn't stick to the lid gets swept away from under the unit for you to wipe up with a damp paper towel. When I tried to remove the cover to wash I couldn't pull down the edges next to the handle. Then I found that there is a locking device that needs to be undone first. It's not where you'd expect it to be, so feel it with your hand. The lid doesn't look very durable. When I washed the lid it was clean. However, pieces of fringes (some parts of the cover have short fringes, like a mop) fell off and had to be wiped out of the washing machine.
