Review on GERBER StrongArm Fixed Blade Knife by Jason Melvin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Wow! Very impressive!

I received this knife for Father's Day and I can only say WOW! I don't normally expect much from Gerber as they have been putting out all those lousy Bear Grylls knives that practically break if you breathe on them too hard! But after seeing all the very positive reviews of this knife on YouTube, I decided to put it on my wish list and see what all the hype is about. I have to say after using this knife for a while I am very pleasantly surprised! I think my opinion on gerberas can finally change! Knife: This knife is very durable in the hand! I would compare it to my ESEE4 and ESEE6 any day of the week when it comes to durability! The molded rubber grip with diamond texture is awesome! Whether wet or dry, this knife will not slip out of your hand! The knife pommel has a good scissors/position adjuster which can be used for a variety of tasks and is a handy feature. The black ceramic coating on the blade is not as rough as on the Becker and ESEE knives, which I think is a plus! The blade looks like it's about 3/16 inch thick but Gerber did a great job sharpening the saber and as a result this knife cuts like a beast! Despite what some people say in their YouTube reviews, this knife is PERFECTLY capable of making some pretty spring bars (as you can see in my photos!). The handle shape is very neutral and feels very comfortable in the hand! It easily allows for a variety of grip options, which is amazing! Simply very well thought out "Great work! tanner! The blade is made of stainless 420HC steel and has a very good edge retention! Gerber did an excellent job with the heat treatment. The blade also came from the factory with a nice symmetrical grind and very sharp edge! I'm also very happy to see that this knife was made right here in Oregon, USA! The guys at Gerber did a very good job on this knife Finishing and sharpening!Of course it will be a bit more difficult for you to use a cudgel for bushcraft purposes, but it's by no means a deal breaker! Also, it's nice to know that I have a knife that I use in both combat and self-defense can become! You never know when you might have to fend off a wild animal. The blade axis is also sharpened at a very good 90 degree angle, suitable for hitting the ferrorod! Another welcome bonus! Finally, and perhaps the knife's most amazing feature. NO TEETH! AT THE END! It's about time Gerber released Use a Fixed Blade Knife with No Serration! So enjoy it guys because it might be a while before Gerber makes plain blade knives! Lol Sheath: This sheath is probably one of the most thought out and well finished sheaths I've ever come across on a production knife! I definitely prefer this sheath to the much touted ESEE sheath! The sheath is made of high quality thermoplastic with lots of rivets and attachment points for Molle and Paracord attachment options. The sheath is also fitted with a detachable clip for carrying in a scout and can also be adjusted with a detachable clip to carry a different type of molle on the back of the sheath. As if that weren't enough, the sheath also comes standard with a high quality and well-made thick nylon webbing for standard belt carry options. The buttons are very durable and well made! I don't see any problems with this case, but if you ever do have a problem, Gerber has an impeccable reputation for customer service and warranty, so I don't think you'll have any problems! And for left-handers, this sheath is also designed to allow the user to sheathe the knife with either left or right hand. Great job Gerber! It's great to see that the company is finally paying attention to left-handers! Conclusion: buy this knife! I would definitely buy this knife again in a heartbeat! This knife is definitely worth its exceptional price of $47 (as of June 2016). For that price I would take two and set aside one as a backup! I firmly believe in the motto "two is one and one is nothing"! Highly recommended! I hope this knife will change how many people think about Gerber!
