Review on KEF Q150 Bookshelf Speakers Black by Steve Atchley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Head to head comparison, KEF wins!

I love my kef. I bought these speakers along with a few others to test side by side. Including Q Acoustic 3020i, Polk S20, Polk S15 and Jamo S803. I can give a brief description of each speaker: Q Acoustic 3020i: Very crisp, would be great for classical music, but compared to Kefs it's cold and a bit lifeless, especially in the mids. Polk S20: Actually the closest thing to a Kef in my opinion, lively and really open sounding, but the speakers are damn big. Polk S15: Tried these based on the sound of the S20 but liked the smaller size. To my ears they didn't sound nearly as good as the S20, too boxy and muffled. Jamo S803: They look great but feel cheap and sound very similar to the S15, sounding small and muffled. a clear winner in these comparisons, lots of detail but not too bright, great mids and an open soundstage. I also got them when they were on sale for $300 so it wasn't hard. If you're on a budget check out the S20, but know they're beasts. Even for 500€ I would still buy them, although they look very minimalistic in my setup and sound very solid I'm very happy to build a system around these speakers.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Negative gift
